Top 5 Players of the 1936 Stanley Cup Finals

On Saturday, April 11th, 1936, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto to win the 23rd Stanley Cup Finals three games to one. It was the first Stanley Cup championship for the Red Wings franchise, and the ninth that was won in Ontario. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #3 Bucko McDonald (Red Wings)- D

McDonald got partial player of the game in game one, scoring a goal as the Red Wings won it 3-1, as well as leading the team in goals scored on the series with three.

4. #15 Pete Kelly (Red Wings)- F

Kelly took partial player of the game in game four, getting a goal in the Red Wings’ 3-2 victory to take the championship.

3. #7 Marty Barry (Red Wings)- F

Barry grabbed partial player of the game in game four, adding one goal as the Red Wings went on to win their first championship with the 3-2 victory.

2. #15 Pep Kelly (Maple Leafs)- F

Kelly earned player of the game honors in game three, getting a pair of goals as the Maple Leafs went on to win it 4-3 in overtime.

1. #10 John Sorrell (Red Wings)- F

Sorrell claimed player of the game honors in game two, picking up two goals and two assists to help lead the Red Wings to a 9-4 win to jump ahead in the series.
