Top 5 Players of the 1937 Stanley Cup Finals

On Thursday, April 15th, 1937, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Rangers at the Detroit Olympia in Detroit to win the 24th Stanley Cup Finals three games to two. It was the second Stanley Cup championship for the Red Wings franchise, and the first that was won in Michigan. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #10 John Sorrell (Red Wings)- F

Sorrell got partial player of the game in game two, adding a goal as the Red Wings won it 4-2 to tie the series up.

4. #18 Lynn Patrick (Rangers)- F

Patrick scored player of the game honors in game one, getting two goals as the Rangers went on to win the game 5-1 to start off the series.

3. #1 Dave Kerr (Rangers)- G

Kerr got player of the game in game three, earning a shutout as the Rangers scored a 1-0 victory to retake the lead in the series.

2. #7 Marty Barry (Red Wings)- F

Barry picked up player of the game in game five, as he got a pair of goals along with an assist as the Red Wings went on to win 3-0 to claim the series victory.

1. #1 Earl Robertson (Red Wings)- G

Robertson claimed player of the game honors in game four, getting a shutout in the Red Wings’ 1-0 victory to stave off elimination and tie the series up.
