Top 5 Players of the 2006 World Series

On Friday, October 27th, 2006, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Detroit Tigers at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to win the 102nd World Series four games to one. It was the 10th World Series championship for the Cardinals franchise, as well as the 11th that was won in Missouri. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #37 Kenny Rogers (Tigers)- P

Rogers was the player of the game in game two, going eight innings with no earned runs allowed on two hits and three walks in the Tigers’ 3-1 win.

4. #15 Jim Edmonds (Cardinals)- CF

Edmonds picked up player of the game in game three, bringing in two RBIs along with one hit and two walks as the Cardinals picked up the 5-0 victory.

3. #5 Albert Pujols (Cardinals)- 1B

Pujols got player of the game honors in game one, as he knocked in two RBIs along with two runs, one hit and one walk as the Cardinals started off the series with a 7-2 victory.

2. #22 David Eckstein (Cardinals)- SS

Eckstein earned player of the game honors in game four, getting two RBIs along with one run and four hits as the Cardinals took the 5-4 victory.

1. #36 Jeff Weaver (Cardinals)- P

Weaver claimed player of the game honors in game five, pitching eight innings with just one earned run allowed on four hits and a walk in the Cardinals’ 4-2 win to earn the series victory.
