Top 5 Players of the 2000 World Series

On Thursday, October 26th, 2000, the New York Yankees defeated the New York Mets at Shea Stadium in New York to win the 96th World Series four games to one. It was the 26th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 30th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #22 Roger Clemens (Yankees)- P

Clemens picked up the win in game two, as he went eight scoreless innings with two hits and no walks allowed in the Yankees’ 6-5 victory.

4. #35 Rick Reed (Mets)- P

Reed scored player of the game honors in game three, going six innings with two earned runs given up on six hits and one walk as the Mets went on to take a 4-2 win.

3. #24 Tino Martinez (Yankees)- 1B

Martinez took player of the game honors in game two, driving in a pair of RBIs along with a run and three hits as the Yankees claimed the 6-5 victory.

2. #12 Denny Neagle (Yankees)- P

Neagle got player of the game in game four, as he allowed two earned runs along with four hits and two walks over the course of four and two thirds innings to help the Yankees to a 3-2 win.

1. #46 Andy Pettitte (Yankees)- P

Pettitte earned player of the game in games one and five, as game one saw him pitch six and two thirds innings with three earned runs allowed on eight hits and one walk in the Yankees’ 4-3 victory in 12 innings, while in game five he went seven innings with no earned runs allowed on eight hits and three walks as the Yankees went on to win 4-2 and claim the series title.
