On Saturday, October 28th, 1995, the Atlanta Braves
defeated the Cleveland Indians at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta to
win the 91st World Series four games to two. It was the third (and as of this
writing, most recent) World Series championship for the Braves franchise and
the second that was won in Georgia. These are the top five players that I felt
most stood out during the series.
5. #8 Albert Belle (Indians)- LF
Belle earned player of the game honors in game five, knocking
in a pair of RBIs on two runs, one hit and one walk as the Indians claimed a 5-4
victory to extend the series.
4. #9 Carlos Baerga (Indians)- 2B
Baerga picked up player of the game in game three, driving
in three RBIs with three hits in the Indians’ 7-6 victory in 11 innings.
3. #23 David Justice (Braves)- RF
Justice earned player of the game honors in game four,
getting two RBIs and a hit as the Braves picked up a 5-2 victory.
2. #31 Greg Maddux (Braves)- P
Maddux took player of the game in game one, as he
earned a complete game with no earned runs allowed on a pair of hits and no
walks as the Braves were able to start off the series with a 3-2 win.
1. #47 Tom Glavine (Braves)- P
Glavine pitched his way to player of the game in games
two and six, as he pitched six innings in game two with two earned runs allowed
on three hits and three walks, while game six saw him go eight shutout innings
with just one hit and three walks allowed as the Braves won it 1-0 to win the
series championship.
