On Monday, October 27th, 1986, the New York Mets
defeated the Boston Red Sox at Shea Stadium in New York to win the 83rd World
Series four games to three. It was the second (and as of this writing, most
recent) World Series championship for the Mets franchise and the 27th that was
won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out
during the series.

innings with no earned runs allowed on four hits and four walks as the Red Sox

Knight picked up player of the game in game six, getting
two RBIs along with two runs and two hits in the Mets’ 6-5 victory in 10
innings.

seven, as he hit three RBIs with a hit as the Mets went on to win 8-5 to clinch
the series title.
2. #40 Dave Henderson (Red Sox)- CF
Henderson earned player of the game honors in games
two and five, hitting two RBIs on two runs and three hits as the Red Sox won
9-3, followed up by a game five performance that saw him drive in an RBI with a
