Top 5 Players of the 1970 World Series

On Thursday, October 15th, 1970, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Cincinnati Reds at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore to win the 67th World Series four games to one. It was the second World Series championship for the Orioles franchise and the second that was won in Maryland. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #35 Mike Cuellar (Orioles)- P

Cuellar scored the win in game five, pitching a complete game with three earned runs on six hits and one walk as the Orioles claimed the series championship with a 9-3 win.

4. #23 Lee May (Reds)- 1B

May got player of the game honors in game four, getting four RBIs, along with a pair of runs, a pair of hits and a walk as the Reds earned their only win of the series 6-5.

3. #14 Merv Rettenmund (Orioles)- LF

Rettenmund took player of the game in game five, as he drove in a pair of RBIs with two runs, two hits and a walk as the Orioles grabbed the 9-3 series-clinching victory.

2. #19 Dave McNally (Orioles)- P

McNally picked up player of the game honors in game three, getting four RBIs along with one run and one hit in the Orioles’ 9-3 win.

1. #26 Boog Powell (Orioles)- 1B

Powell earned player of the game in games one and two, as he hit two RBIs with a run, a hit and a walk in the Orioles’ 4-3 win in game one, followed by a game two performance that saw him hit
