Top 5 Players of the 1968 World Series

On Thursday, October 10th, 1968, the Detroit Tigers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals at Civic Center Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis to win the 65th World Series four games to two. It was the third World Series championship for the Tigers franchise and the seventh that was won in Missouri. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #20 Lou Brock (Cardinals)- LF

Brock took game four’s player of the game, getting four RBIs with two runs and three hits as the Cardinals went on to win 10-1.

4. #25 Norm Cash (Tigers)- 1B

Cash earned player of the game in game five, knocking in two RBIs with two hits and a walk in the Tigers’ 5-3 victory.

3. #5 Jim Northrup (Tigers)- CF

Northrup picked up player of the game honors in game seven, getting two RBIs with one run and two hits in the Tigers’ 4-1 victory to claim the series championship.

2. #29 Mickey Lolich (Tigers)- P

Lolich took player of the game honors in game two, as he drove in two RBIs along with a run, two hits and a walk along with pitching nine innings with one earned run allowed in the Tigers’ 8-1 victory.

1. #6 Al Kaline (Tigers)- RF

Kaline, game six’s player of the game, drove in four RBIs on three runs and three hits as the Tigers went on to win 13-1.
