Top 5 Players of the 1965 Stanley Cup Finals

On Saturday, May 1st, 1965, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Chicago Black Hawks (now Chicago Blackhawks) at the Montreal Forum to win the 52nd Stanley Cup Finals four games to three. It was the 13th Stanley Cup championship for the Maple Leafs franchise, and the 13th that was won in Quebec. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #1 Glenn Hall (Black Hawks)- G

Hall claimed player of the game in game six, making 21 saves on 22 shots in the Black Hawks’ 2-1 win.

4. #16 Henri Richard (Canadiens)- F

Richard got player of the game honors in game one, as he picked up one goal in the Canadiens’ 3-2 victory.

3. #8 Dick Duff (Canadiens)- F

Duff scored player of the game in game seven, as he took one goal and two assists as the Canadiens went on to win it 4-0 and take home the Stanley Cup.

2. #4 Jean Beliveau (Canadiens)- F

Believeau was game five’s player of the game, earning two goals along with two assists to help the Canadiens to the 6-0 victory.

1. #30 Gump Worsley (Canadiens)- G

Worsley picked up player of the game honors in game two, earning a shutout on the strength of 18 saves on 18 shots in the Canadiens’ 2-0 victory.
