Top 5 Players of the 1958 Stanley Cup Finals

On Sunday, April 20th, 1958, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Boston Bruins at the Boston Garden to win the 45th Stanley Cup Finals four games to one. It was the 10th Stanley Cup championship for the Canadiens franchise, and the third that was won in Massachusetts. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #6 Bronco Horvath (Bruins)- F

Horvath claimed player of the game honors in game two, as he picked up a pair of goals as the Bruins went on to win 5-2.

4. #17 Don McKenney (Bruins)- F

McKenney got player of the game in game four, as he added two goals as well to help the Bruins to the 3-1 victory.

3. #9 Maurice Richard (Canadiens)- F

Richard earned player of the game honors in game three, taking two goals as the Canadiens won it 3-0 to reclaim the lead in the series.

2. #1 Jacques Plante (Canadiens)- G

Plante got player of the game honors in game one, making 28 saves on 29 shots on the way to the Canadiens’ 2-1 win to start off the series.

1. #5 Bernie Geoffrion (Canadiens)- F

Geoffrion was player of the game in games five and six, as game five saw him get a goal and an assist in the Canadiens’ 3-2 overtime victory, followed in game six with two goals and one assist as the Canadiens went on to win 5-3 to take home the Stanley Cup.
