On Tuesday, October 4th,
1955, the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees at Yankee
Stadium in New York to win the 52nd World Series four games to three. It was
the first World Series championship for the Dodgers franchise and the 20th that
was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out
during the series.
5. #23 Tommy Byrne
(Yankees)- P
Byrne took player of the
game in game two, pitching all nine innings while allowing two earned runs on
five hits and five walks in the Yankees’ 4-2 win.
4. #4 Duke Snider
(Dodgers)- CF
Snider grabbed player of
the game honors in game five, hitting a pair of RBIs with two runs and three
hits as the Dodgers went on to win 5-3.
3. #39 Roy Campanella
(Dodgers)- C
Campanella earned player
of the game honors in game three, picking up three RBIs with one run and three
hits in the Dodgers’ 8-3 victory.
2. #14 Gil Hodges
(Dodgers)- 1B
Hodges got player of the
game in game four, nabbing three RBIs to go along with one run and three hits
as the Dodgers went on to win it 8-5.
1. #45 Johnny Podres
(Dodgers)- P
Podres earned player of
the game in game seven, pitching a complete game shutout with eight hits and a
pair of walks in the Dodgers’ 2-0 victory to win the series championship.
