Top 5 Players of the 1954 Stanley Cup Finals

On Friday, April 16th, 1954, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Montreal Canadiens at the Detroit Olympia to win the 41st Stanley Cup Finals four games to three. It was the sixth Stanley Cup championship for the Red Wings franchise, and the seventh that was won in Michigan. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #6 Floyd Curry (Canadiens)- F

Curry picked up player of the game in game six, earning two goals as the Canadiens went on to win 4-1.

4. #1 Gerry McNeil (Canadiens)- G

McNeil scored player of the game honors in game five, picking up a shutout in the Canadiens’ 1-0 win in overtime.

3. #14 Dutch Reibel (Red Wings)- F

Reibel took player of the game in game one, as he got a goal and an assist as the Red Wings won it 3-1.

2. #15 Alex Delvecchio (Red Wings)- F

Delvecchio claimed player of the game honors in game three, scoring one goal and two assists in the Red Wings’ 5-2 victory.

1. #1 Terry Sawchuk (Red Wings)- G

Sawchuk earned player of the game honors in game seven, as he claimed the win with one goal allowed as the Red Wings took the 2-1 win to take the series championship.
