Top 5 Players of the 1947 Stanley Cup Finals

On Saturday, April 19th, 1947, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto to win the 34th Stanley Cup Finals four games to two. It was the sixth Stanley Cup championship for the Maple Leafs franchise, and the 12th that was won in Ontario. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #14 Vic Lynn (Maple Leafs)- F

Lynn earned partial player of the game honors in games two and three, as he got a goal and an assist in game two on the way to a 4-0 win, while game three saw him score a goal in the Maple Leafs’ 4-2 win.

4. #9 Ted Kennedy (Maple Leafs)- F

Kennedy earned partial player of the game in games two and three, as he added a goal and an assist in game two’s 4-0 victory, while in game three he added another goal as the Maple Leafs won it 4-2.

3. #14 Billy Reay (Canadiens)- F

Reay picked up player of the game in game one, as he scored a pair of goals in the Canadiens’ 6-0 victory to start off the series.

2. #9 Maurice Richard (Canadiens)- F

Richard claimed player of the game in game five, taking two goals as the Canadiens went on to win it 3-1 to keep the series alive.

1. #1 Turk Broda (Maple Leafs)- G

Broda earned player of the game honors in games four and six, as game four saw him allow just one goal in the Maple Leafs’ 2-1 overtime win, followed up in game six with allowing just one goal in another 2-1 victory to clinch the series title.
