Top 5 Players of the 1942 World Series

On Monday, October 5th, 1942, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 39th World Series four games to one. It was the fourth World Series championship for the Cardinals franchise and the 13th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #21 Johnny Beazley (Cardinals)- P

Beazley was the game five starter, going all nine innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits and one walk in the Cardinals’ 4-2 victory, as they claimed the series win.

4. #34 Buddy Hassett (Yankees)- 1B

Hassett claimed player of the game honors in game one, knocking in two RBIs on one run and a pair of hits as the Yankees went on to win 7-4.

3. #15 Walker Cooper (Cardinals)- C

Cooper earned player of the game honors in game two, getting two RBIs along with one hit in the Cardinals’ 4-3 victory.

2. #28 Ernie White (Cardinals)- P

White picked up player of the game in game three, going all nine innings with no earned runs given up on just six hits and no walks as the Cardinals pulled ahead in the series with a 2-0 win.

1. #1 Whitey Kurowski (Cardinals)- 3B

Kurowski earned player of the game in games four and five, as in game four he was able to get a pair of RBIs along with a run, a hit and a walk in the Cardinals’ 9-6 victory, followed up in game five with another pair of RBIs driven in with one run and one walk as the Cardinals won it 4-2 to earn the series championship.
