Top 5 Players of the 1941 World Series

On Monday, October 6th, 1941, the New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodgers at Ebbets Field in New York to win the 38th World Series four games to one. It was the ninth World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 12th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #17 Whit Wyatt (Dodgers)- P

Wyatt picked up player of the game honors in game two, going all nine innings with only two earned runs allowed on nine hits and five walks as the Dodgers won their lone victory in the series 3-2.

4. #9 Charlie Keller (Yankees)- LF

Keller earned player of the game in game four, getting three RBIs with one run on four hits as the Yankees went on to win 7-4.

3. #15 Red Ruffing (Yankees)- P

Ruffing was player of the game in game one, going all nine innings with just one earned run allowed with six hits and three walks in the Yankees’ 3-2 victory.

2. #20 Tiny Bonham (Yankees)- P

Bonham went the distance to earn player of the game in game five, allowing one earned run on four hits and a pair of walks as the Yankees won 3-1 to claim the series championship.

1. #22 Marius Russo (Yankees)- P

Russo won player of the game in game three, pitching all nine innings with one earned run given up on four hits and a pair of walks as the Yankees went on to win it 2-1.
