Top 5 Players of the 1939 Stanley Cup Finals

On Sunday, April 16th, 1939, the Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs at Boston Garden in Boston to win the 26th Stanley Cup Finals four games to one. It was the second Stanley Cup championship for the Bruins franchise, and the first that was won in Massachusetts. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #14 Murph Chamberlain (Maple Leafs)- F

Chamberlain earned partial player of the game in game two, getting a goal in the Maple Leafs’ 3-2 overtime victory.

4. #10 Syl Apps (Maple Leafs)- F

Apps also got partial player of the game in game two, as he got a goal in the game as well as coming in second in goals scored during the regular season with 15.

3. #7 Doc Romnes (Maple Leafs)- F

Romnes also took partial player of the game honors in game two, scoring the overtime game-winner to get the Maple Leafs’ only victory of the series.

2. #9 Roy Conacher (Bruins)- F

Conacher claimed player of the game honors in games three and five, as game three saw him score a goal and an assist in the Bruins’ 3-1 victory, followed up in game five as he added a goal and an assist again to help the Bruins to another 3-1 win to earn the championship.

1. #1 Frank Brimsek (Bruins)- G

Brimsek scored player of the game in games one and four, as in game one he gave up just one goal as the Bruins took it 2-1, while game four saw him earn the shutout in the Bruins’ 2-0 win.
