Top 5 Players of the 1936 World Series

On Tuesday, October 6th, 1936, the New York Yankees defeated the New York Giants at Polo Grounds in New York to win the 33rd World Series four games to two. It was the fifth World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the ninth that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #2 Dick Bartell (Giants)- SS

Bartell picked up player of the game honors in game one, as he got an RBI with a run and two hits on the game to give the Giants a 6-1 victory.

4. #4 Lou Gehrig (Yankees)- 1B

Gehrig was game four’s player of the game, with two RBIs on two runs and two hits as the Yankees went on to win 5-2.

3. #7 Jake Powell (Yankees)- LF

Powell got player of the game in game six, taking four RBIs, three runs and three hits as the Yankees claimed the 13-5 win to clinch the series victory.

2. #8 Bill Dickey (Yankees)- C

Dickey picked up player of the game in game two, getting five RBIs with three hits, two hits and a walk in the Yankees’ 18-4 victory, to date the largest margin of victory in a World Series game.

1. #14 Bump Hadley (Yankees)- P

Hadley got player of the game in game three, pitching eight innings with one earned run allowed on 10 hits and a walk in the Yankees’ 2-1 win.
