On Tuesday, April 14th, 1931, the Montreal Canadiens
defeated the Chicago Black Hawks (now Chicago Blackhawks) at the Montreal Forum
in Montreal to win the 18th Stanley Cup Finals three games to two. It was the fourth
Stanley Cup championship for the Canadiens franchise, and the fifth that was
won in Quebec. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during
the series.
5. #9 Pit Lepine (Canadiens)- F
Lepine got a pair of goals in game four as the
Canadiens went on to win 4-2, as well as adding another goal in game one, which
the Canadiens won 2-1.
4. #16 Stew Adams (Black Hawks)- F
Adams got player of the game honors in game three,
getting one goal and one assist as the Black Hawks took the 3-2 win in triple
overtime.
3. #1 Charlie Gardiner (Black Hawks)- G
Gardiner earned player of the game in game two, as he
allowed only one goal as the Black Hawks won it 2-1 in double overtime.
2. #1 George Hainsworth (Canadiens)- G
Hainsworth got player of the game honors in game one, giving
up just one goal as the Canadiens won it 2-1 to start off the series.
1. #14 Johnny Gagnon (Canadiens)- F
Gagnon picked up player of the game in games four and
five, as game four saw him score a pair of goals and one assist in the
Canadiens’ 4-2 victory, while game five saw him get a goal midway through the
second period as the Canadiens went on to win 2-0 to earn the series victory.
