Top 5 Players of the 1929 Stanley Cup Finals

On Friday, March 29th, 1929, the Boston Bruins defeated the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in New York to win the 16th Stanley Cup Finals two games to none. It was the first Stanley Cup championship for the Bruins franchise, and the first that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #1 John Ross Roach (Rangers)- G

Despite losing in both games, Roach played well with only two goals allowed in both games of the series to give his team a chance to win.

4. #1 Tiny Thompson (Bruins)- G

Thompson got the win in each game of the series, giving the Bruins a shutout in a 2-0 win in game one while allowing just one goal in game two as the Bruins won it 2-1 to claim their first championship.

3. #12 Dit Clapper (Bruins)- F

Clapper got partial player of the game honors in game one, scoring one goal on the way to the Bruins’ 2-0 victory.

2. #8 Dutch Gainor (Bruins)- F

Gainor shared player of the game in game one as well, getting a goal along with 14 goals during the regular season to put himself in second on the team in regular-season scoring.

1. #9 Harry Oliver (Bruins)- F

Oliver grabbed full player of the game honors in game two, as he got a goal and an assist for the Bruins as they took the 2-1 win.
