Top 5 Players of the 1928 Stanley Cup Finals

On Saturday, April 14th, 1928, the New York Rangers defeated the Montreal Maroons at the Montreal Forum in Montreal to win the 15th Stanley Cup Finals three games to two. It was the first Stanley Cup championship for the Rangers franchise, and the third that was won in Quebec. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #12 Merlyn Phillips (Maroons)- F

Phillips got partial player of the game in game one, scoring a goal on the way to helping the Maroons to a 2-0 victory.

4. #5 Nels Stewart (Maroons)- F

Stewart took player of the game in game three, getting a goal in the Maroons’ 2-0 victory to retake the lead in the series.

3. #5 Bill Cook (Rangers)- F

Cook earned player of the game honors in game two, as he scored one goal in the Rangers’ 2-1 overtime win.

2. #7 Frank Boucher (Rangers)- F

Boucher was game five’s player of the game, as he scored two goals as the Rangers went on to win it 2-1, claiming their first Stanley Cup championship.

1. #1 Joe Miller (Rangers)- G

Miller claimed player of the game honors in game four, getting a shutout as the Rangers picked up the 1-0 victory to tie the series back up.
