Top 5 Players of the 1924 Stanley Cup Finals

On Tuesday, March 25th, 1924, the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League defeated the Calgary Tigers of the Western Canada Hockey League at Ottawa Auditorium in Ottawa to win the 11th Stanley Cup Finals two games to none. It was the second Stanley Cup championship for the Canadiens franchise (their first as a member of the NHL), and the fifth that was won in Ontario. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #1 Georges Vezina (Canadiens)- G

Vezina got the win in both games of the series, allowing just one goal as the Canadiens went on to win 6-1, while game two saw him pick up a shutout as the Canadiens won it 3-0 to earn the championship.

4. #2 Sprague Cleghorn (Canadiens)- D

Cleghorn scored a goal in game one, the only defenseman from the Canadiens to score a goal during the series.

3. #13 Billy Boucher (Canadiens)- F

Boucher got a goal and an assist in game one, helping the Canadiens to the 6-1 victory, as well as adding another goal in game two.

2. #4 Aurel Joliat (Canadiens)- F

Joliat scored player of the game honors in game two, scoring one goal in the midway point of the third period in the Canadiens’ 3-0 victory to clinch the series title.

1. #7 Howie Morenz (Canadiens)- F

Morenz picked up player of the game honors in game one, as he scored a hat trick with three goals as the Canadiens went on to win the game 6-1.
