On Tuesday, October 13th, 1914, the Boston
(now Atlanta) Braves defeated the Philadelphia (now Oakland) Athletics at National
League Park in Boston to clinch the 11th World Series four games to none. It
was the first World Series championship for the Braves franchise and the third
that was won in Massachusetts. These are the top five players that I felt most
stood out during the series.

P
Tyler was the game three
starter, going 10 innings while giving up four earned runs on eight hits and
three walks in a no decision, however the Braves would go on to win it 5-4 in
12 innings with Bill James picking up the win.
4. Possum Whitted
(Braves)- CF
Whitted earned player of
the game honors in game one, driving in two RBIs, two runs and a hit as well as
a walk as the Braves took it 7-1. Overall, Whitted had two RBIs along with two
runs, three hits and three walks.
3. Hank Gowdy (Braves)- C
Gowdy was game three’s
player of the game, earning two RBIs along with a run, three hits and a walk in
the Braves’ 5-4 win in 12 innings. Over the course of the series, Gowdy had
three RBIs with three runs, six hits and five walks for a .545 batting average.
2. Dick Rudolph (Braves)-
P
Rudolph was the game four
player of the game, as he started and pitched a complete game with one earned
run allowed along with seven hits and a walk as the Braves won it 3-1 to claim
the series victory.
1. Bill James (Braves)- P
