On Friday, September 29th, 2000, Australia defeated Argentina
3-1 in the gold medal game to win the sixth gold medal in women’s Olympic field
hockey history. It was the third (and, as of this writing, most recent) gold
medal for Australia in women’s field hockey. Argentina took the silver medal,
as Netherlands took bronze by defeating Spain 2-0 in the bronze medal game. The
tournament was held in the Australia with Sydney as the host city.
Nikki Hudson of Australia scored the most goals in the
tournament with six. Each team played four games during the preliminary round
of the tournament.
