On Friday, August 10th, 1984, Netherlands defeated West
Germany by 3 points in the standings to win the second gold medal in women’s
Olympic field hockey history. It was the first gold medal for the Netherlands
in women’s field hockey. West Germany took the silver medal, as United States
took bronze, finishing 4 points behind the Netherlands. The tournament was held
in the United States with Los Angeles as the host city.
Beth Anders of the United States scored the most goals
in the tournament with eight. Each team played five games during the
tournament.
