Top 5 Players of the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals

On Wednesday, June 4th, 2008, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins at Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh to win the 94th Stanley Cup Finals four games to two. It was the 11th (and, as of this writing, most recent) Stanley Cup championship for the Red Wings franchise, and the third that was won in Pennsylvania. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #87 Sidney Crosby (Penguins)- F

Crosby took player of the game in game three, getting two goals in the Penguins’ 3-2 victory.

4. #23 Brad Stuart (Red Wings)- D

Stuart picked up player of the game in game two, as he scored one goal and one assist to help the Red Wings to a 3-0 victory.

3. #40 Henrik Zetterberg (Red Wings)- F

Zetterberg scored player of the game honors in game six, grabbing a goal and an assist as the Red Wings took a 3-2 win to earn the series championship.

2. #37 Mikael Samuelsson (Red Wings)- F

Samuelsson got player of the game in game one, scoring two goals as the Red Wings went on to claim a 3-0 victory.

1. #30 Chris Osgood (Red Wings)- G

Osgood earned player of the game honors in game four, making 22 saves on 23 shots in the Red Wings’ 3-2 win.
