Top 5 Players of the 2004 World Series

On Wednesday, October 27th, 2004, the Boston Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to win the 100th World Series four games to none. It was the sixth World Series championship for the Red Sox franchise, and their first in 86 years, as well as the 10th that was won in Missouri. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #38 Curt Schilling (Red Sox)- P

Schilling earned the win in game two, as he went six innings with no earned runs allowed on four hits and one walk in the Red Sox’s 6-2 victory.

4. #44 Orlando Cabrera (Red Sox)- SS

Cabrera picked up player of the game honors in game two, driving in two RBIs with one hit and one walk as the Red Sox claimed the 6-2 win.

3. #34 David Ortiz (Red Sox)- DH

Ortiz scored player of the game honors in game one, knocking in four RBIs on one run, two hits and two walks as the Red Sox went on to take an 11-9 victory.

2. #45 Pedro Martinez (Red Sox)- P

Martinez pitched his way to player of the game in game three, going seven innings with no earned runs given up on just three hits and two walks as the Red Sox picked up the 4-1 victory.

1. #32 Derek Lowe (Red Sox)- P

Lowe took player of the game honors in game four, as he went seven innings with no earned runs allowed on three hits and one walk as the Red Sox went on to win it 3-0 to claim the series sweep.
