Top 5 Players of the 1992 World Series

On Saturday, October 24th, 1992, the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Atlanta Braves at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in Atlanta to win the 89th World Series four games to two. It was the first World Series championship for the Blue Jays franchise and the first that was won in Georgia. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #47 Tom Glavine (Braves)- P

Glavine pitched his way to player of the game honors in game one, going all nine innings with just one earned run allowed on four hits and no walks in the Braves’ 3-1 win.

4. #32 Dave Winfield (Blue Jays)- RF

Winfield got player of the game honors in game six, hitting two RBIs on one hit and one walk for go-ahead runs in extra innings as the Blue Jays took it 4-3 in 11 innings to win the series.

3. #33 Ed Sprague (Blue Jays)- PH

Sprague was game two’s player of the game, earning a pair of RBIs with a run and a hit as the Blue Jays went on to take the 5-4 win.

2. #22 Jimmy Key (Blue Jays)- P

Key took player of the game honors in game four, pitching seven and two-thirds innings with just one earned run allowed on five hits and no walks as the Blue Jays won 2-1.

1. #66 Juan Guzman (Blue Jays)- P

Guzman pitched his way to player of the game in game three, going eight innings while allowing only one earned run on eight hits and a walk in the Blue Jays’ 3-2 win.
