Top 5 Players of the 1991 Stanley Cup Finals

On Saturday, May 25th, 1991, the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Minnesota North Stars (now Dallas Stars) at the Met Center in Bloomington, Minnesota to win the 78th Stanley Cup Finals four games to two. It was the first Stanley Cup championship for the Penguins franchise, and the first that was won in Minnesota. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #30 Jon Casey (North Stars)- G

Casey claimed player of the game in game three, as he made 29 saves on 30 shots in the North Stars’ 3-1 victory to take the series lead.

4. #66 Mario Lemieux (Penguins)- F

Lemieux grabbed player of the game honors in game four, getting one goal and one assist as the Penguins took a 5-3 victory.

3. #8 Mark Recchi (Penguins)- F

Recchi got player of the game honors in game five, taking two goals in the Penguins’ 6-4 win to retake the lead in the series.

2. #25 Kevin Stevens (Penguins)- F

Stevens picked up player of the game in game two, as he scored a pair of goals as the Penguins claimed a 4-1 victory.

1. #7 Joe Mullen (Penguins)- F

Mullen took player of the game in game six, getting two goals and one assist as the Penguins went to win 8-0, the largest margin of victory in Stanley Cup Finals history.
