Top 5 Players of the 1987 Stanley Cup Finals

On Sunday, May 31st, 1987, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton to win the 74th Stanley Cup Finals four games to three. It was the third Stanley Cup championship for the Oilers franchise, and the fourth that was won in Alberta. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #22 Rick Tocchet (Flyers)- F

Tocchet claimed player of the game in game five, scoring a pair of goals and an assist as the Flyers claimed a 4-3 win.

4. #27 Ron Hextall (Flyers)- G

Hextall grabbed player of the game in game six, getting 30 saves on 32 chances in the Flyers’ 3-2 victory.

3. #26 Mike Krushelnyski (Oilers)- F

Krushelnyski took player of the game honors in game four, as he picked up a goal to help the Oilers to the 4-1 victory.

2. #99 Wayne Gretzky (Oilers)- F

Gretzky picked up player of the game in game one, as he got one goal and one assist in the Oilers’ 4-2 win.

1. #31 Grant Fuhr (Oilers)- G

Fuhr earned player of the game honors in games two and seven, making 32 saves on 34 shots to win game two 3-2 in overtime, while game seven saw him get 19 saves on 20 shots as the Oilers won it 3-1 to earn the Stanley Cup.
