Top 5 Players of the 1985 Stanley Cup Finals

On Thursday, May 30th, 1985, the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers at Northlands Coliseum in Edmonton to win the 72nd Stanley Cup Finals four games to one. It was the second Stanley Cup championship for the Oilers franchise, and the second that was won in Alberta. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #31 Pelle Lindbergh (Flyers)- G

Lindbergh claimed the win in game one, as he made 25 saves on 26 shots to help the Flyers earn a 4-1 victory. Sadly, Lindbergh passed away later that year in a car accident while drunk driving.

4. #12 Tim Kerr (Flyers)- F

Kerr was game one’s player of the game, picking up one goal and one assist as the Flyers won it 4-1.

3. #7 Paul Coffey (Oilers)- D

Coffey took player of the game honors in game five, getting two goals and one assist to help the Oilers to an 8-3 win to claim back-to-back Stanley Cups.

2. #31 Grant Fuhr (Oilers)- G

Fuhr picked up player of the game in game two, as he made 17 saves on 18 shots in the Oilers’ 3-1 victory to even up the series.

1. #99 Wayne Gretzky (Oilers)- F

Gretzky earned player of the game honors in games three and four, as game three saw him get three goals and an assist in the Oilers’ 4-3 victory, followed up in game four with two more goals as the Oilers won it 5-3.
