Top 5 Players of the 1983 Stanley Cup Finals

On Tuesday, May 17th, 1983, the New York Islanders defeated the Edmonton Oilers at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, New York to win the 70th Stanley Cup Finals four games to none. It was the fourth (and, as of this writing, most recent) Stanley Cup championship for the Islanders franchise, and the sixth that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #12 Duane Sutter (Islanders)- F

Sutter claimed a pair of goals and five assists over the course of the series, leading all players in the series in total points.

4. #6 Ken Morrow (Islanders)- D

Morrow earned three goals and two assists during the series, as he led all defensemen in goals throughout the series.

3. #22 Mike Bossy (Islanders)- F

Bossy scored played of the game honors in game four, getting one goal and one assist in the Islanders’ 4-2 victory to claim the series title.

2. #31 Billy Smith (Islanders)- G

Smith picked up player of the game in game one, as he earned a shutout with 35 saves on 35 shots as the Islanders went on to win 2-0.

1. #21 Brent Sutter (Islanders)- F

Sutter got player of the game honors in games two and three, picking up a pair of goals and one assist in the Islanders’ 6-3 win in game two, followed up in game three with a goal and an assist as they won it 5-1.
