On Wednesday, October 20th, 1982, the St. Louis
Cardinals defeated the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium in St. Louis to win
the 79th World Series four games to three. It was the ninth World Series
championship for the Cardinals franchise and the eighth that was won in New
York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the
series.
5. #17 Jim Gantner (Brewers)- 2B
Gantner was player of the game in game one, as he hit
two RBIs with two runs and two hits as the Brewers went on to win it 10-0 to
start off the series.
4. #15 Darrell Porter (Cardinals)- C
Porter got player of the game honors in game two,
picking up two RBIs and two hits as the Cardinals claimed a 5-4 victory.
3. #51 Willie McGee (Cardinals)- CF
McGee earned player of the game honors in game three
with four RBIs driven in, along with two runs, two hits and a walk in the
Cardinals’ 6-2 win.
2. #19 Robin Yount (Brewers)- SS
Yount was player of the game in games four and five, as
game four saw him knock in a pair of RBIs with one run and two hits in the
Brewers’ 7-5 victory. Game five saw Yount drive in an RBI on two runs and four
hits in the Brewers’ 6-4 win to take the series lead.
1. #37 Keith Hernandez (Cardinals)- 1B

two runs and two hits as the Cardinals won 13-1 to force a game seven. In that
game seven, he earned two RBIs with one run, two hits and two walks in the
Cardinals’ 6-3 win to claim the series championship.
