On Thursday, May 11th, 1972, the Boston Bruins
defeated the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden in New York to win the 59th
Stanley Cup Finals four games to two. It was the fifth Stanley Cup championship
for the Bruins franchise, and the second that was won in New York. These are
the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.
5. #2 Brad Park (Rangers)- D
Park took player of the game in game three, earning a
pair of goals and a pair of assists as the Rangers took their first win of the
series 5-2.
4. #12 Wayne Cashman (Bruins)- F
Cashman claimed player of the game honors in game six,
getting a pair of goals as the Bruins went on to win 3-0.
3. #4 Bobby Orr (Bruins)- D
Orr got player of the game honors in game four, scoring
two goals and one assist as the Bruins claimed the 3-2 victory.
2. #8 Ken Hodge (Bruins)- F
Hodge picked up player of the game in game one, earning
a hat trick with three goals in the Bruins’ 6-5 victory to begin the series.
1. #1 Eddie Johnston (Bruins)- G
Johnston earned player of the game honors in game two,
making 27 saves on 28 chances as the Bruins took the 2-1 win.
