Top 5 Players of the 1970 Stanley Cup Finals

On Sunday, May 10th, 1970, the Boston Bruins defeated the St. Louis Blues at the Boston Garden in Boston to win the 57th Stanley Cup Finals four games to none. It was the fourth Stanley Cup championship for the Bruins franchise, and the fourth that was won in Massachusetts. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #30 Gerry Cheevers (Bruins)- G

Cheevers claimed the win in all four games of the series, with his best game coming in game one as he made 28 saves on 29 shots, as the Bruins went on to earn the series sweep.

4. #10 Rick Smith (Bruins)- D

Smith took player of the game honors in game four, picking up a goal and an assist as the Bruins went on to win 4-3 in overtime to clinch the series sweep.

3. #12 Wayne Cashman (Bruins)- F

Cashman earned player of the game in game three, as he scored two goals in the Bruins’ 4-1 victory.

2. #18 Ed Westfall (Bruins)- F

Westfall picked up player of the game honors in game two, as he grabbed two goals and one assist as the Bruins won it 6-2.

1. #9 Johnny Bucyk (Bruins)- F

Bucyk grabbed player of the game honors in game one, getting a hat trick with three goals scored as the Bruins went on to win it 6-1 to start off the series.
