Top 5 Players of the 1968 Stanley Cup Finals

On Saturday, May 11th, 1968, the Montreal Canadiens defeated the St. Louis Blues at the Montreal Forum in Montreal to win the 55th Stanley Cup Finals four games to none. It was the 15th Stanley Cup championship for the Canadiens franchise, and the 14th that was won in Ontario. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #16 Henri Richard (Canadiens)- F

Richard scored two goals and one assist during the series, including adding the tying goal in game four.

4. #25 Jacques Lemaire (Canadiens)- F

Lemaire got player of the game honors in game one, as he scored the game-winning goal in the Canadiens’ 3-2 victory in overtime.

3. #3 JC Tremblay (Canadiens)- D

Tremblay claimed player of the game in game four, grabbing one goal and one assist as the Canadiens went on to win 3-2 to claim the series title.

2. #12 Yvan Cournoyer (Canadiens)- F

Cournoyer picked up player of the game honors in game three, as he took one goal and one assist as the Canadiens won it 4-3 in overtime.

1. #1 Gump Worsley (Canadiens)- G

Worsley grabbed player of the game in game two, earning the shutout with 19 saves on 19 shots in the Canadiens’ 1-0 win.
