On Tuesday, October 7th,
1952, the New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodgers at Ebbets
Field in New York to win the 49th World Series four games to three. It was the
15th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 18th that was
won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out
during the series.
5. #4 Duke Snider (Dodgers)- CF
Snider picked up player of the game in game five, earning
four RBIs with one run and three hits in the Dodgers’ 6-5 win in 11 innings.
4. #49 Joe Black (Dodgers)- P
Black got player of the game in game one, pitching all
nine innings with two earned runs allowed on six hits and a pair of walks as
the Dodgers won it 4-2, allowing Black to become the first black pitcher to win
a World Series game.
3. #1 Billy Martin (Yankees)- 2B
Martin earned player of the game in game two, getting
four RBIs with one run and two hits as the Yankees went on to win it 7-1.
2. #17 Vic Raschi (Yankees)- P
Raschi pitched his way to player of the game honors in
game six, going seven and two thirds innings with two earned runs allowed on
eight hits and one walk in the Yankees’ 3-2 victory.
1. #22 Allie Reynolds (Yankees)- P
Reynolds had player of the game honors in games four
and seven, pitching a complete game shutout in game four with four hits and
three walks as the Yankees won 2-0, followed by a game seven effort where he
pitched three innings allowing one earned run on three hits and no walks as the
Yankees claimed the series with a 4-2 victory.
