On Saturday, October 7th,
1950, the New York Yankees defeated the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium
in New York to win the 47th World Series four games to none. It was the 13th
World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 16th that was won
in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during
the series.
5. #19 Whitey Ford
(Yankees)- P
Ford earned the win in
game four, pitching eight and two thirds innings with no earned runs allowed on
seven hits and a walk as the Yankees went on to win 5-2 to win the series
championship.
4. #8 Yogi Berra
(Yankees)- C
Berra took player of the
game in game four, hitting two RBIs with two runs and two hits in the Yankees’
5-2 win to take the series championship.
3. #30 Eddie Lopat
(Yankees)- P
Lopat, the game three
player of the game, went eight innings while allowing just two earned runs on
nine hits and no walks as the Yankees claimed the 3-2 victory.
2. #22 Allie Reynolds
(Yankees)- P
Reynolds grabbed player
of the game in game two, giving up just one earned run on seven hits and four
walks over 10 innings pitched as the Yankees won it 2-1.
1. #17 Vic Raschi
(Yankees)- P
Raschi earned player of
the game honors in game one, pitching all nine innings with no earned runs
allowed on two hits and a walk in the Yankees’ 1-0 victory to start out the
series.
