Top 5 Players of the 1947 World Series

On Monday, October 6th, 1947, the New York Yankees defeated the Brooklyn (now Los Angeles) Dodgers at Yankee Stadium in New York to win the 44th World Series four games to three. It was the 11th World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the 14th that was won in New York. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. #1 Pee Wee Reese (Dodgers)- SS

Reese earned player of the game in game six, hitting two RBIs with two runs and three hits with a walk as the Dodgers went on to win 8-6.

4. #8 Hal Gregg (Dodgers)- P

Gregg pitched his way to player of the game in game four, pitching seven innings with one earned run allowed on four hits and three walks in the Dodgers’ 3-2 win.

3. #10 Phil Rizzuto (Yankees)- SS

Rizzuto, game seven’s player of the game, got one RBI with two runs and three hits in the Yankees’ 5-2 victory to take home the series championship.

2. #20 Spec Shea (Yankees)- P

Shea was game five’s player of the game, as he allowed just one earned run on four hits and five walks over nine innings pitched as the Yankees went on to win it 2-1.

1. #27 Johnny Lindell (Yankees)- LF

Lindell got partial player of the game in game one and full player of the game in game two, as game one saw him get two RBIs with one hit in the Yankees’ 5-3 victory, while game two saw him get a pair of RBIs with a run, two hits and a walk as the Yankees took the 10-3 victory.
