On
Sunday, October 8th, 1939, the New York Yankees defeated the Cincinnati Reds at
Crosley Field in Cincinnati to win the 36th World Series four games to none. It
was the eighth World Series championship for the Yankees franchise and the second
that was won in Ohio. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out
during the series.

#14 Bump Hadley (Yankees)- P
Hadley
pitched eight innings in game three, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and
three walks as the Yankees won it 7-3.

#8 Bill Dickey (Yankees)- C
Dickey
got player of the game honors in game four, as he earned two RBIs along with a
run and a hit as the Yankees won 7-4 in 10 innings to claim the series
championship.

#9 Charlie Keller (Yankees)- RF
Keller
was game three’s player of the game as he put up four RBIs with three runs, two
hits and a walk in the Yankees’ 7-3 victory.

#15 Red Ruffing (Yankees)- P
Ruffing,
the game one player of the game, went all nine innings while allowing just one
earned run on four hits and a walk as the Yankees went on to win 2-1 to start
out the series.

#16 Monte Pearson (Yankees)- P
Pearson earned player of the game honors in game two, pitching
a complete game shutout with just two hits allowed and a walk in the Yankees’
4-0 victory.
