Top 5 Players of the 1924 World Series

On Friday, October 10th, 1924, the Washington Senators (now Minnesota Twins) defeated the New York (now San Francisco) Giants at Griffith Stadium in Washington to win the 21st World Series four games to three. It was the first World Series championship for the Twins franchise and first that was won in the District of Columbia. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. Jack Bentley (Giants)- P

Bentley was player of the game in game five, driving in two RBIs on one run and two hits, while also pitching seven and a third innings with two earned runs allowed on nine hits and three walks in the Giants’ 6-2 win.

4. Art Nehf (Giants)- P

Nehf was player of the game in game one, going all 12 innings with two earned runs allowed on 10 hits and five walks as the Giants took it 4-3 in extra innings.

3. Goose Goslin (Senators)- LF

Goslin earned player of the game honors in game three, knocking in four RBIs with a pair of runs and four hits with the Senators going on to win 7-4.

2. George Mogridge (Senators)- P

Mogridge was player of the game in game seven, as he went four and two-thirds innings with one earned run allowed on four hits and a walk as the Senators claimed the series with a 4-3 victory in 12 innings.

1. Tom Zachary (Senators)- P

Zachary got player of the game in games two and six, as in game two he went eight and two-thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits and three walks in the Senators’ 4-3 victory, then in game six with a complete game pitched with one earned run given up on seven hits and no walks as the Senators went on to win 2-1.
