Top 5 Players of the 1916 World Series

On Thursday, October 12^th, 1916, the Boston Red Sox defeated the Brooklyn Robins at Braves Field in Boston to clinch the 13th World Series four games to one. It was the fourth World Series championship for the Red Sox franchise and the fourth that was won in Massachusetts. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. Ivy Olson (Robins)- SS

Olson was the player of the game in game three, as he drove in two RBIs along with two hits and one run as the Robins took their only win of the series 4-3. Over the course of the series, Olson had two RBIs, four hits and a run.

4. Hal Janvrin (Red Sox)- 2B

Janvrin, the game five player of the game, getting an RBI and a pair of hits as the Red Sox won it 4-1 to clinch the series victory. Overall, Janvrin had an RBI, two runs and five hits on the series.

3. Dick Hoblitzell (Red Sox)- 1B

Hoblitzell earned player of the game honors in game one, with an RBI on two runs and a hit as the Red Sox claimed the 6-5 victory. Hoblitzell would struggle for the rest of the series however, without any RBIs driven in outside of game one.

2. Larry Gardner (Red Sox)- 3B

Gardner was the player of the game in game four, with three RBIs with a run and a hit in the Red Sox’ 6-2 win. Gardner would get six RBIs along with two runs and three hits throughout the series.

1. Babe Ruth (Red Sox)- P

Ruth picked up player of the game in game two with a spectacular pitching performance, starting and going all 14 innings, allowing just one earned run, six hits and three walks as the Red Sox won it 2-1.
