Top 5 Players of the 1906 World Series

On Sunday, October 14^th, 1906, the Chicago White Sox defeated the Chicago Cubs at South Side Park in Chicago to clinch the third World Series four games to two. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series. It was the first World Series championship for the White Sox franchise and the first that was won in Illinois. These are the top five players that I felt most stood out during the series.

5. Joe Tinker (Cubs)- SS

Tinker was the player of the game in game two, hitting an RBI along with getting three runs, two hits and a walk. Over the course of the series, he had an RBI to go along with four runs, three hits and two walks with a .167 batting average.

4. Mordecai Brown (Cubs)- P

Brown earned player of the game honors in game four, pitching a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win, allowing a pair of hits and a pair of walks. Brown also pitched in games one and six, where he did not fare as well with losses in both games. In total, he went 19 and two thirds innings with eight earned runs allowed on 14 hits and four walks.

3. Nick Altrock (White Sox)- P

Altrock was player of the game in game one, in a complete game with one earned run given up on four hits and a walk to earn the win. Altrock also pitched in game four and had a strong showing as well in another complete game with just one earned run given up on seven hits and a walk, but suffered the loss. In all, he pitched 18 innings with two earned runs, 11 hits and two walks for a 1.00 ERA.

2. Ed Walsh (White Sox)- P

Walsh earned player of the game honors in game three, with a stellar complete game shutout allowing just two hits and a walk. Walsh would go on to pitch game five, earning the win there as well with one earned run given up on five hits and five walks. In all, Walsh threw 15 innings, giving up seven hits and six walks with just a single earned run allowed, earning an ERA of 0.60.

1. George Davis (White Sox)- SS

Davis came into the series late, not playing until game four, however he came through big as he was the player of the game in games five and six to win the series. In game five, he drove in three RBI with a pair of runs and a pair of hits, followed by the exact same stat line in game six. In total, Davis had six RBIs with four runs and four hits, earning a batting average of .308.
