The Fort Myers Miracle
defeated the Daytona Tortugas 3-1 in the first game of the Florida State League
Finals on Friday night, setting off a positive start in the series for the
Miracle.
The game went scoreless
on both sides throughout the first half of the game, before the Miracle came
through in the sixth inning as third baseman Jose Miranda hit a two run home
run to break the ice. The team then added to their lead in the seventh inning
as second baseman Travis Blankenhorn drove in an RBI single to make it a 3-0
game. While the Tortugas got a run back in the eighth on an RBI single courtesy
of center fielder Taylor Trammell, the Miracle would still hang on to win 3-1.
Miracle starting pitcher Charlie
Barnes took the win, pitching six and two thirds innings and allowing no earned
runs on seven hits and one walk. Tortugas starter Packy Naughton went seven
innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits and one walk on the way to the
loss. Miracle reliever Jovani Moran picked up the save, going two and a third
innings in relief.
The teams will next play
