On Sunday, November 18th,
2007, the 2007 NASCAR Cup Series season concluded with Jimmie Johnson defeating
Jeff Gordon by 77 points to win the 59th championship in Cup Series history. It
was the second Cup Series championship for Johnson. Jeff Gordon claimed the
regular season championship.
The 2007 Daytona 500 was
won by Kevin Harvick, while Kurt Busch led the most laps with 95.
The 2007 season also saw
two more spots added for the playoffs, as now the top 12 drivers in points
following the regular season would be in the playoffs to determine the overall
champion in the final 10 races.

Busch claimed the fifth spot with one win, 11
top-fives and 20 top-10s, getting an average finish of 14.1. Busch also led the
most laps in two races during the season.
4. #17 Matt Kenseth (-425)
Kenseth grabbed fourth as he had two victories, 13
top-fives and 22 top-10s for an average finish of 13.0, while leading the most
laps in four starts.
3. #07 Clint Bowyer (-346)
Bowyer finished in third with one win, five top-fives
and 17 top-10s for an average finish of 13.8. Bowyer also led the most laps in two
races.
2. #24 Jeff Gordon (-77)
Gordon took the runner-up spot with six wins, 21
top-fives and 30 top-10s, for an average finish of 7.3, while leading the most
laps in seven races.
1. #48 Jimmie Johnson
Johnson picked up back-to-back championships as he had
10 wins, 20 top-fives and 24 top-10s, taking an average finish of 10.8. Johnson
led the most laps in two races.
