On Sunday, November 12th, 1995, the 1995 NASCAR Cup
Series season concluded with Jeff Gordon defeating Dale Earnhardt by 34 points
to win the 46th championship in Cup Series history. It was the first Cup Series
championship for Gordon. These are the top five points finishers for the
season.
The 1995 Daytona 500 was won by Sterling Marlin, who
also led the most laps with 105. Marlin took back-to-back 500 victories with
the win.
5. #2 Rusty Wallace (-374 points)
Wallace picked up fifth as he had two wins, 15
top-fives and 19 top-10s for an average finish of 11.8. Wallace also led the
most laps in four races.
4. #6 Mark Martin (-294)
Martin claimed fourth with four wins, 13 top-fives and
22 top-10s, taking an average finish of 10.7 while leading the most laps in five
races.
3. #4 Sterling Marlin (-253)
Marlin earned third in points with three victories,
nine top-fives and 22 top-10s for an average finish of 9.8. Marlin led the most
laps in two races as well.
2. #3 Dale Earnhardt (-34)
Earnhardt grabbed the runner-up spot as he had five
wins, 19 top-fives and 23 top-10s, claiming an average finish of 9.2 while
leading the most laps in three starts.
1. #24 Jeff Gordon
Gordon picked up the championship on the strength of seven
wins, 17 top-fives and 23 top-10s for an average finish of 9.5, leading the
most laps in 11 races as well.
