On Sunday, October 29th, 1950, the 1950 NASCAR Cup Series season concluded with Bill Rexford defeating Fireball Roberts by 110.5 points to win the second championship in Cup Series history. It was the first (and only) Cup Series championship for Rexford. These are the top five points finishers for the season.
5. #41 Curtis Turner (-583.5)
Turner took the fifth spot with four wins, seven
top-fives and seven top-10s, as he also led the most laps total on the season
and led the most laps in seven races.
4. #59 Lloyd Moore (-561)
Moore claimed fourth in points with one victory, seven
top-fives and 10 top-10s, taking an average finish of 12.8.
3. #42 Lee Petty (-369)
Petty grabbed third in points with one victory, nine top-fives and 13 top-10s, getting an average finish of 7.7. He had a comfortable points lead until he was dealt a record-setting 809-point penalty for competing in non-NASCAR sanctioned races.
2. #71 Fireball Roberts (-110.5)
Roberts claimed the second spot as he earned one win,
four top-fives and five top 10s in only nine starts for an average finish of
11.0.
1. #60 Bill Rexford
Rexford claimed the championship, getting one win,
five top-fives and 11 top-10s along with an average finish of 10.9.
