On Friday,
August 9th, 2024, the Netherlands defeated China 1-1, after winning
the shootout round 3-1, in the gold medal game to win the 12th gold
medal in Olympic women’s field hockey. It was the fifth gold medal for the
Netherlands in Olympic women’s field hockey, as well as the first time a
country won the gold medal in both men’s and women’s field hockey in the same
year. China took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their second silver
medal in Olympic women’s field hockey. Argentina defeated Belgium 2-2, after
winning the shootout round 3-1, in the bronze medal game to take their third
bronze medal Olympic women’s field hockey history.
The
tournament was held in France, with Paris as the host city. Yibbi Jansen of the
Netherlands scored the most goals of the tournament with eight.
