On Sunday, January 29th, 1995, the San Francisco 49ers
defeated the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers 49-26 in Super Bowl XXIX to
win the 75th championship in NFL history. It was the fifth (and, as of this
writing, most recent) championship for the 49ers franchise as 49ers quarterback
Steve Young won the Super Bowl MVP Award. The game was held at Joe Robbie
Stadium in Miami, Florida.
Young also won the 1994 MVP Award with 35 passing
touchdowns and 3,969 passing yards, while 49ers cornerback Deion Sanders won the
1994 Defensive Player of the Year Award with six interceptions, three of which were
returned for touchdowns in his lone season with the team.
