On Saturday, August 11th, 2012, Germany defeated the
Netherlands 2-1 in the gold medal game to win the 22nd gold medal in Olympic
men’s field hockey history. It was the fourth gold medal for Germany in Olympic
men’s field hockey. The Netherlands took the silver medal with the loss,
claiming their fourth silver medal in Olympic men’s
field hockey. Australia defeated Great Britain 3-1 in the bronze medal
game, grabbing their fifth bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in the United Kingdom, with London
as the host city. Mink van der Weerden of the Netherlands scored the most goals
during the tournament with eight.
