On Saturday, August 23rd, 2008, Germany defeated Spain
1-0 in the gold medal game to win the 21st gold medal in Olympic men’s field
hockey history. It was the third gold medal for Germany in Olympic men’s field
hockey. Spain took the silver medal with the loss, claiming their third silver
medal in Olympic men’s field hockey. Australia
defeated the Netherlands 6-2 in the bronze medal game, grabbing their fourth
bronze medal in Olympic men’s field hockey history.
The tournament was held in China, with Beijing as the
host city. Taeke Taekema of the Netherlands scored the most goals during the
tournament with 11.
